THAILAND CONNECTIVITY // FIELD GUIDE
The ASIMGO Thailand eSIM is a data-only digital SIM for travel within Thailand. Its current product page lists AIS and TRUE with 4G, LTE and 5G access, daily, total and Unlimited data choices, and hotspot support. It suits visitors moving between cities and resorts who have an unlocked eSIM-capable device. It does not cover neighboring countries or include calls, SMS or a phone number. Its listed Network IP is Indonesia, and the Unlimited fair-use rule is not published.
A Thailand trip can jump from Bangkok streets to Chiang Mai, a southern ferry pier and a small island hotel within a week. Maps, ride-hailing, booking messages and banking alerts all matter most at the moment you leave reliable Wi-Fi, so a data plan must fit the actual route and phone you will carry.
This Thailand eSIM guide explains the coverage and network listing, how to compare data structures, when validity starts, and what to set on arrival. It also separates the standard Thailand plan from the similarly named Local Unlimited product, whose published IP and Unlimited details need careful reading before purchase.
Why mobile data takes planning on a Thailand trip
Thailand is one country, but the practical connection problem changes during the trip. A traveler might need data immediately for airport transport, use it lightly while exploring Bangkok, then rely on navigation and messaging during a road transfer or ferry connection. Hotel Wi-Fi cannot cover those gaps, and a home-carrier roaming pass may have its own daily charges or data rules.
Mobile service also depends on the local radio network at each location. A product listing that includes 5G describes potential access, not a promise that every beach, mountain road or indoor room has 5G. AIS's official 5G FAQ notes that coverage, device capability, package eligibility and traffic affect the experience.
An eSIM is a downloaded SIM profile rather than a removable plastic card. Apple's eSIM overview explains the digital SIM approach; for a traveler, the useful outcome is that installation can happen over Wi-Fi before departure. The plan still needs a compatible, unlocked phone and the correct mobile-data settings after arrival.
Thailand eSIM coverage and network details
The current ASIMGO Thailand product page lists Thailand as its only covered country. It currently names AIS and TRUE in its network field, with 4G, LTE and 5G listed for both. That is a product partnership listing, not an independent signal survey or a guarantee that a device can choose either network at every point.
For a Bangkok–Chiang Mai–Phuket itinerary, the same Thailand eSIM remains the relevant country plan as you move between those Thai destinations. For a side trip into Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia or Vietnam, this single-country product is outside its listed coverage; review a Southeast Asia regional eSIM or a separate country plan before crossing the border. Check every stop on your final itinerary rather than treating a country name as a promise of signal on a particular boat route or remote trail.
| Covered Country | Listed Networks | Highest Listed Access |
|---|---|---|
| Thailand | AIS and TRUE | LTE / 5G |
For readability, the network table shows the highest two access labels from the product listing. 4G is also listed and may be used as a fallback. Device bands, building materials, congestion and local availability affect the real connection; the AIS 5G coverage page is useful context, but it is not a guarantee of this travel eSIM's performance.

How the Thailand eSIM connects and what Network IP means
After installation, your phone stores the ASIMGO profile alongside any home SIM you keep active. On arrival in Thailand, select the ASIMGO line for mobile data and enable data roaming on that line as directed by the ASIMGO FAQ. The profile can then register on a supported partner network where service is available; switching to another Thai coverage area does not require scanning another QR code.
A network's physical radio location and an internet-facing IP location are different facts. Although this product uses Thai partner networks, its Network IP field says ID, meaning Indonesia. A travel app, website or payment check might interpret an IP differently from your GPS location, and a listing of 5G says nothing by itself about IP origin. If a Thailand-based IP is essential for work or a location-sensitive service, get written confirmation for the exact variant before buying.
Crossing a land border is a separate plan decision. The Thailand product lists no neighboring country, so do not assume the profile will continue working in Cambodia or Malaysia. A five-country Southeast Asia product lists Thailand and four other markets, but its country list, network IP and data rules are different and must be checked independently.
How to choose Thailand eSIM data and validity
Start with the number of calendar days on which you will need mobile data, including arrival and departure. The standard Thailand plan selector shows 1 through 60 Days in several steps, but the actual purchasable combinations depend on the selected variant. Give yourself enough validity to cover airport transfers and any late return, while remembering that the period begins on first supported connection and data use.
Daily Data provides a recurring allowance and suits a traveler who expects similar usage each day; the exact reset time and post-allowance behavior are not stated on the product page. Total Data is one allowance for the entire selected period, often easier for a trip with heavy navigation one day and mostly Wi-Fi the next. Unlimited is listed on the standard product, but the published page leaves its Data Rule blank; do not infer a high-speed threshold, throttle speed or reset cycle.
| Plan Structure | Best For | Watch For | Practical Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daily Data | Similar use on most travel days | Confirm reset timing and what happens after the daily allowance. | Maps, ride booking and messaging during a five-day city trip. |
| Total Data | Uneven use across the itinerary | Budget the entire allowance; background backups and video can consume it quickly. | Heavy navigation on transfer days, hotel Wi-Fi on rest days. |
| Unlimited | Travelers who want less day-to-day counting | The standard product's fair-use threshold and speed policy are not published; confirm before purchase. | Frequent social posting and navigation where an unknown speed rule matters. |
| Local Unlimited Product | Those comparing a separately listed product | One variant is labeled Unlimited 10 Mbps, but the page's IP field says ID and its other Unlimited rule needs confirmation. | Ask support about the precise variant and IP requirement before choosing it. |
The separate Thailand Local Unlimited Data product lists an “Unlimited 10Mbps” variant and another “Unlimited” variant. Its description states a 10 Mbps cap, but does not clearly reconcile that statement with both variants; its current Network IP field also says ID despite the product name. These are reasons to check the selected option with ASIMGO support, not grounds to assume either unlimited high-speed data or a Thai IP.
Who the Thailand eSIM fits—and who should choose another option
The standard Thailand eSIM fits a visitor staying within Thailand who needs app-based data for maps, messaging, bookings and ordinary browsing. It is especially practical for an unlocked dual-SIM phone: retain a home line for calls or verification messages, while directing mobile data through the travel line. Apple's international eSIM guidance describes this dual-line arrangement for compatible iPhones and also cautions that the home line can still incur its own charges.
It is a poor fit if you need a Thai phone number, carrier voice calls or SMS from the travel plan; the product page explicitly excludes them. It is also not the right single plan for a Thailand-plus-Malaysia itinerary, or for a job that requires a confirmed Thai IP. Compare a regional product, a local carrier plan with documented number and IP features, or your existing carrier's roaming offer based on the requirement that matters most.
For heavy laptop use, do more than look for a hotspot badge. Hotspot is supported, but data allowance, any speed rule and the stability of the local signal still determine whether tethering will satisfy a video call or upload. If failure would disrupt work, arrange a second connection such as reliable accommodation Wi-Fi or another carrier before leaving for remote locations.
Compatibility, installation and activation
Check the exact phone model and region on ASIMGO's compatible devices page, then confirm it is carrier-unlocked. A familiar model name alone is insufficient: ASIMGO lists regional exceptions for some iPhones, Pixels and Samsung phones. In settings, look for Add eSIM and an EID; if either check is unclear, ask support before ordering.
- Buy the intended Thailand variant and keep the order email accessible. The product page says the QR code is emailed within 5 minutes after payment is confirmed; check spam and contact support if it does not arrive.
- While connected to Wi-Fi, follow ASIMGO's Apple setup guide or Android setup guide to add the profile. Label it clearly, and do not delete it casually: the FAQ says the QR code is a one-time-use key.
- After installation, turn the travel line off until arrival. The product says validity begins when the eSIM connects to a supported network and starts using data.
- In Thailand, enable the ASIMGO line, select it for mobile data, turn on data roaming for that line, and check that home-line data switching will not cause unwanted roaming charges. Restart the phone if the connection does not establish.
The product page does not publish a manual APN value. Leave APN settings at the profile's defaults unless ASIMGO support gives instructions for this exact plan; guessing another product's APN can make troubleshooting harder. If the phone shows signal but no internet, use the ASIMGO connection checklist, capture the settings and error message, then contact support before removing the profile.
Hotspot, Network IP and real-world limitations
Hotspot sharing is listed as supported, so a laptop or travel companion may use your phone's connection. Sharing does not create a second allowance, and connected devices may run software updates or cloud backups without warning. Check data consumption on the phone and use the ASIMGO Usage Checker where applicable.
Network IP is the product's published internet routing label, not a guarantee that a particular website will classify your location the same way. The Thailand standard product displays Indonesia (ID). The separately named Local Unlimited product also displayed ID at verification, so anyone relying on a Thai IP should treat that feature as to be confirmed with ASIMGO for the exact variant.
A 5G-capable phone can still use LTE or 4G when 5G is unavailable or conditions change. The AIS network FAQ identifies coverage, device specifications and traffic as factors in actual speed. In practice, dense concrete, a crowded station, mountainous terrain or a ferry route can create gaps; download essential tickets and offline maps before a long transfer.
What the available evidence can—and cannot—tell you
This guide uses the live ASIMGO product listing for plan facts, ASIMGO support pages for device and setup rules, and official AIS and Apple material for general network and eSIM context. A network listing establishes what ASIMGO offers on its product page; it does not measure signal in your hotel or prove a particular speed on your route. Editorial plan-use examples are decision aids, not measured usage forecasts.
The product page contains traveler reviews, but the visible review carousel includes reviews for other destinations, so it cannot be used as Thailand-specific performance evidence. We did not perform an independent speed test or a full-route field test in Thailand. If a feature is absent, contradictory or variant-specific—especially Unlimited rules, APN and Thai IP—we mark it as unpublished or requiring confirmation rather than filling the gap with an estimate.
Pre-departure checklist
- Write down every country on your route; a Thailand-only plan does not cover a border excursion.
- Match the exact unlocked device model against the compatibility list.
- Choose days that include airport transfers, then choose Daily Data, Total Data or an Unlimited variant based on actual use.
- Ask ASIMGO support for the selected variant's fair-use rule, APN or IP location if any is essential to your trip.
- Save the QR email and setup guide; install over Wi-Fi and keep the travel line off until you are ready to use it.
- Download tickets, hotel addresses and offline maps; keep a second connection option for critical work or remote transfers.

Frequently asked questions
Tap or click a question to reveal the answer. The plus icon opens an item; the minus icon closes it.
Does the ASIMGO Thailand eSIM cover nearby countries?
No. The ASIMGO eSIM Thailand currently lists Thailand only. Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam are outside this plan's published coverage; compare the Southeast Asia regional plan or separate country products for a cross-border route.
Can I keep the same eSIM while traveling within Thailand?
Yes, the Thailand eSIM is intended for covered network use within Thailand, so traveling between Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket does not require a new QR code. Connection still depends on local network availability, your device and the selected variant; it does not extend across an international border.
Does this Thailand eSIM include calls, SMS or a Thai number?
No. The standard ASIMGO Thailand eSIM lists voice calls and SMS as unsupported and includes no phone number. Internet calling apps can use its data, while your home SIM may remain active for ordinary calls or messages subject to your home carrier's charges.
When does the Thailand eSIM validity period start?
ASIMGO states that validity begins when the Thailand eSIM connects to a supported network and starts using data. You may install the QR profile over Wi-Fi before travel, then keep the eSIM line off until arrival to avoid starting the period early. Check the selected number of days on the product page.
Can I use a hotspot with the Thailand eSIM?
Yes. The standard Thailand product page lists hotspot as supported, so you may tether another device where the connection works. Shared devices draw from the selected data plan and may consume data quickly through backups, updates or video streaming.
What does Unlimited mean, and will I get a Thai IP?
The standard Thailand eSIM lists an Unlimited option but does not publish a complete fair-use threshold, speed limit or reset cycle. Its Network IP field currently shows Indonesia (ID), not Thailand. The separately named Local Unlimited product also showed ID at verification, so confirm the exact variant and IP requirement with ASIMGO support before purchase.
What APN should I use if the eSIM will not connect?
The ASIMGO Thailand product page does not publish a manual APN value. First select the ASIMGO line for mobile data, enable data roaming on that line and restart the device, following the ASIMGO FAQ. If it still fails, contact support with your order and screenshots rather than guessing an APN or deleting the one-time eSIM profile.
Can I request a refund if the eSIM fails?
Read the ASIMGO refund policy and contact support during the problem with your order ID and device evidence. Eligibility depends on the stated circumstances and review; a change of mind, an incompatible or locked device, and deleting an installed eSIM can affect the outcome. Do not rely on a generic refund promise for a specific case.

The bottom line
For a trip contained within Thailand, the standard ASIMGO Thailand eSIM offers a practical data-only setup with selectable days, several data structures, listed AIS and TRUE access, and hotspot support. The strongest buying decision comes from matching days and allowance to your itinerary, confirming that your exact phone is unlocked and compatible, and keeping realistic expectations for signal in difficult locations.
If you need cross-border coverage, voice service, a Thai IP or a documented Unlimited fair-use rule, verify those needs against a different plan or get a specific support answer first. Otherwise, review the current Thailand eSIM variants, save the setup instructions and prepare an offline backup for critical travel steps. Product facts verified on October 23, 2026.
